We have ultimately entered the year which has been the source of anticipation for many: the year 2012. There are many reasons explaining why folk are worried about this year and about December 2012 in particular. Folks are essentially panicking because the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012. Many have interpreted the abrupt ending of this 5,125-year-old calendar as a prophecy from the ancient Mayans, caution us this date implies the end of the world.

The foreteller is most renowned for his prophecies about the big destruction and possible end of the Earth caused by a comet that is anticipated to hit Earth during December of 2012. Since the Galactic Equator marks the mid-point of our universe, this could place Earth in the very middle of the Milky Way universe. This planetary occurrence also ties into Egyptian folklore. The Egyptians believed that we came from the Milky Way and therefore the Nile River is actually the Milky Way?s reflection on Earth. There are also traditional Egyptian predictions claiming that a catastrophic event is set to occur in 2012.
By examining the varied predictions and influences involving 2012, it is obvious that something is about to happen. Rather than translating these predictions with fear, many decide to view them in a positive light. While visiting sacred locales like Egypt and Peru, those steering these sacred travelmystical journeys can and will offer us alternative interpretations.
According to astrologers 2012 marks the start of the Age of Aquarius, a period of expansion, awareness and consciousness. This indicates the year that everyone will ?wake up.? People may awaken in different ways and at different times, but the point is that everyone is going to awaken. The only destruction to occur will be the demise of our old selves upon our awakening to a new awareness. This new consciousness means accepting ourselves foremost as spiritual creatures with the realisation that our spiritual connection is the most important aspect of our existence. At times , the pain that many of us experience in this life feels intolerable; but the awareness that we are a part of a larger plan can regularly turn this unhappiness into a nearly unspeakable joy. When we are spiritually connected, we experience the pleasures and wonders of our lives that we would otherwise miss. Instead of destruction, let 2012 bring us hope.
