(AP) ? Adrian Peterson remained in a walking boot to treat a high ankle sprain on his left leg on Wednesday, and coach Leslie Frazier said he will not play on Sunday against Atlanta if he can't hit the practice field in the next two days.

Peterson missed practice on Wednesday after sustaining the injury against Oakland last weekend. Frazier said the team hopes the boot will be removed Thursday. But if Peterson cannot practice this week, Minnesota will not try to push him to get ready for the Falcons.

"If he can't do anything by Friday we wouldn't try and go work him out on Sunday to see if he could be ready to go," Frazier said.

At 2-8, the Vikings have little incentive to force their franchise player back onto the field. Toby Gerhart would start in Peterson's place if he is unable to play.

Safety Husain Abdullah (concussion) and tight ends Visanthe Shiancoe (hamstring) and Kyle Rudolph (quadriceps) also missed practice on Wednesday. Linebacker Erin Henderson (hamstring), quarterback Christian Ponder (knee), left guard Anthony Herrera (knee) and receiver Percy Harvin (ribs) were all limited.

Frazier said the club will monitor Herrera throughout the week in hopes that he is ready to return against the Falcons on Sunday.
