Board games are still scoring points this holiday season, when it looked like tech games were going to short circuit those family classics that use plastic pieces, cards and dice. While IPads and other tech products seem to have a growing monopoly, board games are making a move like a bendable player in "Twister."
They are getting the attention of some shoppers who are finding as much fun laying the game out on the table and inviting many players to take part.
The Game Seeker store in Santa Barbara is stocked with favorites such as "Sorry," "Operation," and several versions of "Monopoly."
There are also many games based on TV shows including Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Password.
"We have games with the same mechanics (as some hi tech options)." said Game Keeper Owner Lisa Gerr.
She says many parents who have students in home school are finding educational and mind challenging games.
"There's nothing like sitting around the table and being goofy again," said Gerr when explaining how board games are bringing families together and away from the large TV's in the living room.
Nearby at the Hobby Central, David Wycoff says he has seen remote control planes and helicopters soar in popularity. He also says small race cars with remote drivers are coming off his shelves and over to a track at Ellings Park.
The store also has trains roaring around the display case and they remain popular with those who like to put things together by hand.
Many dads and their sons often come in to check out car, space, and plane kits they can assemble together like many adults did when they were kids.
