NEW YORK, NY (March 8, 2013) Germany is a leading logistics hub with nearly 28 million people working in related fields and ranked fourth on the World Bank's 2012 Logistics Performance Index. The German logistics industry's revenue accounted for nearly 228 billion euros in 2012, making it the country's third strongest industrial branch, after the automotive industry and trade.
On March 14, 2013, German and U.S. logistics experts from the EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr, the Georgia Institute of Technology (GeorgiaTech), Lufthansa Cargo, and Schenker, Inc. will address opportunities and disruptions in global transport and logistics at the German Center for Research and Innovation (GCRI) in New York.
Uwe Clausen, Director at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics, whose expertise includes transport and logistics development and efficiency, will introduce the EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr, a winner of Germany's Leading-Edge Cluster competition, and advise on how to create sustainable and secure logistics systems, using Frankfurt Airport, one of the world's top ten airports, as an example.
John-Paul Clarke, Director of the Air Transportation Laboratory at GeorgiaTech, will speak about infrastructure and airport design, in particular on scheduling algorithms and operations. His presentation will be followed by James LoBello, Head of Security, The Americas, Lufthansa Cargo Group, who will discuss Lufthansa Cargo's security approach and overall security in the air cargo industry as well as EU and U.S. regulations and developments.
Jan Hinz, the Transatlantic Trade Lane Director of Ocean Freight Region Americas at DB Schenker, Inc., will address data-driven security and visibility. His presentation will include the implementation and impact of security initiatives, such as the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), Automated Manifest System & Importer Security Filing (AMS & ISF) as well as GPS tracking devices.
Larry Fannin, Director of Trade Compliance & Regional Logistics in the Americas at Carl Zeiss, will moderate the discussion.
The event, which is organized by GCRI in cooperation with ConRuhr North America, will take place on Thursday, March 14, 2013, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the German House New York (871 United Nations Plaza, First Avenue, btw. 48th & 49th Streets).
